Because of one off-meta Agent selection flown by the team’s captain, Koji ‘Laz’ Ushida, ZETA DIVISION overcame Team Secret 2-0 in the competition for the VCT Pacific LCQ. After defeating Team Secret by a score of 2-0 on July 21, ZETA DIVISION secured a slot for themselves in the Valorant championship match of the VCT Pacific LCQ competition. Now, all that stands between the Japanese squad and a spot in the Valorant Champions 2023 tournament is a straightforward step.
The captain of ZETA DIVISION returned to an old Agent choice from 2022 in Chamber, hoping it would assist the team in getting over the hump in that particular series. The sniper Sentinel is making a gradual but steady comeback into the professional metagame, as it was selected quite a few times at the VCT Americas LCQ event. During the first half of the year, international competitions rarely involved the Chamber and it had minimal participation. Although the Agent has been chosen by three teams competing in the Americas tournament (100 Thieves, MIBR, and KRÜ Esports), no one has been able to employ him as well as ZETA DIVISION did when they faced Team Secret.
ZETA DIVISION has advanced to the grand final of the VCT Pacific LCQ
Japan has selected Chamber to participate in both the Lotus and Fracture matches. Laz completed the Lotus map with a scoreline of 26/13 and a first kill/first death ratio of +2. He also had a +2 first kill/first death ratio. He ended with a VLR rating of 1.46 and an average combat score of 330, which placed him at the top of the scoreboard for the map. On the map, ZETA DIVISION prevailed over Team Secret 13-9 and won.
Laz’s dominant play on Fracture continued, as he recorded 16 kills and a +3 first kill/first death ratio throughout the match. The captain and his team won the series when they defeated Team Secret with a score of 13-7. In the most recent VCT Pacific LCQ, ZETA DIVISION has dominated the competition. Yuma ‘Dep’ Hashimoto, the primary Initiator player for the squad, also turned in a dominant performance versus RRQ in the upper bracket semifinals. During the game, he broke the record for the most kills in a single map on LAN.
Fans will have the opportunity to find out on July 23 if Laz will continue to employ the Agent in the championship match. In the crucial game, ZETA DIVISION will compete against either Team Secret or Gen.G, with a berth at Valorant Champions 2023 hanging in the balance.
