Outrage among Pokemon TCG Players as The Pokemon Company Cancels Yokohama Open Side Event

The Pokemon Company announced the cancellation of the Yokohama Open, the largest side-event scheduled for the Pokemon World Championships 2023, and the Pokemon TCG players are outraged. Also, the Pokemon Company organizes the Pokemon Globe Championships to showcase the best players from all around the globe after each competitive season.

Pokemon TCG players in attendance were eager to participate in the Yokohama Open side event to get a head start on the 2024 season. That event is in Yokohama, Japan, beginning on August 11 for 2023. Fans are not delighted with The Pokemon Company’s tweet informing them that the event has “regretfully” been postponed.

The tweet was sent on July 20 and shared on the Play! Pokemon account has received over 1.3 million views. “Unfortunately, it has been decided to cancel the Yokohama Open. Throughout the Worlds weekend, please look forward to taking part in enjoyable side events and activities, they urged. To be clear, only the Yokohama Open side event is canceled; the 2023 Pokemon World Championships remain in effect. Nevertheless, trainers expressed their opinions on the last-minute cancellation in the Twitter responses, many of whom expressed frustration.

Please, at least, be truthful with us. You guys made this choice without much thought because you know your fan base will continue to support you no matter how poorly you treat them. Don’t deceive them by saying that you “regret” what you said after already deceiving them once, one person said.

One more said, “Is this serious? I have invested significant money in cards, lodging, and travel. I have also purchased the spectator permits. A third person said, “This is genuinely unacceptable, lmao.” Naturally, players are a little miffed about the Day 2 event being canceled three weeks before the event since many were looking forward to participating in it as a chance to start earning Championship Points to qualify for Worlds 2024.
