Apex Legends Mobile Discontinuation Announcement by Respawn Entertainment
After its debut in the early months of 2022, the mobile version of Apex Legends will be discontinued on May 1, 2023, according to an announcement made by Respawn Entertainment. On January 31, 2023, the developer issued a statement discussing the decision and describing it as “difficult.”
The firm has stated that players on the mobile platform would not be able to receive refunds for in-game purchases but that this decision will not affect the PC versions of the Battle Royale game. The ability to make in-app purchases within the game has been disabled, and the game itself has been withdrawn from the relevant game stores.
Apex Legends Mobile will be discontinued for the reasons explained by Respawn
The developer clarified that the content for Apex Legends Mobile did not meet their expectations in terms of both the quality and quantity of the material, which ultimately led to the firm deciding to pull the plug on the game.
The mobile version of Apex Legends was released on May 22, 2023, and the website mobilegamer reports that it was a moderate success, generating revenue of $7 million in its first month of availability. According to the article, the revenue generated by the mobile adaptation of the popular game dropped as time passed, with the month of December bringing in a total of $3.5 million.
Before Respawn announced that it would discontinue the game, it had raked in almost $40 million. The developer revealed the delay in the release of the fourth season on January 5 owing to various bugs and other concerns. The premiere of Underworld’s third season took place in November. In 2012, the mobile game was honored with the “Game of the Year” award from both Apple and Google.
Respawn has pulled the plug on the mobile game since they cannot keep up with the demand for fresh content and the maintenance of a third port. Respawn said in a statement that the firm is considering returning to the mobile platform at some point in the near future. According to the released statement, “Respawn and the Apex Legends team continue to be enthused about mobile as a platform and look forward to more chances to serve gamers there in the future.”
