Filipino Businessman Bernard Chong, Owner of Bren Esports, Exonerated of Drug Smuggling Charges

According to a source, Bernard Chong, a Filipino businessman who owns the esports group Bren Esports, has been acquitted of charges related to smuggling. The National Bureau of Investigation in the Philippines has accused Chong of being involved in the importation of methamphetamines worth $33.6 million, and local officials are looking for him in connection with this crime. On June 2, 2021, a warrant was issued for his arrest as of this writing. According to the allegations, Chong was involved in smuggling drugs thanks to his business connections with the Fortuneyield Cargo Services Corporation.

According to a report from Valo2Asia, the owner of Bren Esports was acquitted of these allegations when Chong submitted a petition stating that the court should dismiss the charges and revoke the warrant owing to abuse of discretion and lack of jurisdiction. Also, Chong made the petition in the previous year. The court presiding over the case decided that his petition should be granted, which resulted in the cancellation of Chong’s arrest warrant and the dismissal of the drug smuggling allegations against him. According to the report, Chong also produced data demonstrating he broke relations with the Fortuneyield Cargo Services Corporation before discovering drugs in one of their shipments. This information was included in the documents that he gave.

The claims of cocaine smuggling against the owner of Bren Esports have been dismissed

In addition, on August 2, 2022, Chong responded to the initial claims made against him on Twitter. He stated that he was “categorically” denying the allegations brought against him and that “the truth will always prevail.” Additionally, at the time, he published a video through Jake Lucky stating that he had faith in the legal system.

“I hope the people who spent time with me, who know me, they can be a character witness or be the one to tell the world outside what kind of person I am,” Chong said. “It’s important to me that people know who I am.” Bren Esports began operations in 2017 and has since grown to become one of the most successful companies based in Southeast Asia. The company fielded competition squads in League of Legends, Mobile Legends, and Valorant.

Also, the most significant accomplishment that the company has accomplished to this yet was winning the Mobile Legends M2 World Championship in 2021. Because Bren left most of its other esports titles in 2021 and 2022, the only roster that the company currently fields is for Mobile Legends.
