If his Patreon receives enough support, well-known content producer Disguised Toast will sign a Super Smash Bros. pro to his esports team. To raise money for his esports project, which is expected to cost $1 million by 2023 but is having trouble getting sponsors because of what is known as the “esports winter,” Disguised Toast created a Patreon last month.
Disguised currently exclusively fields a male League of Legends squad participating in the North American Challengers League. Toast hinted at developing a second Patreon tier to let supporters choose the esports competition that Disguised will join while co-streaming the team’s July 2 match against TeamFishTaco. The toast was questioned regarding the prospect of signing a Super Smash Bros. player less than a minute later. In response, the OfflineTV user promised to join Smash Esports if his Patreon reached 3,000 subscribers by the end of the month. He’ll even let his fans choose the player.
He promised I’d sign a Smash player if we reached 3,000 patrons by the end of July. “I know the right course of action is to check with my accountant first, but I’m just going to say random things.”When we reach 3,000 supporters, I’ll sign a Smash player. I’ll let the audience members decide who that player is.
The community of Smash responds to Disguised Toast’s promise
Unsurprised, the Smash community delighted at the prospect of Disguised joining the fray. One player, in particular, is glaringly evident as a fit for Toast’s endeavor. Since Counter Logic Gaming and NRG combined, Cody Schwab, formerly known as iBDW, needs a team.
The Melee Fox specialist, who just took first place at Battle of BC 5 in Vancouver, jokingly urged his following to contribute to Toast’s Patreon campaign. He tweeted, “We have an opportunity to do something really amusing. Melee, hurry up, I need this LMAO. Patreon patrons have increased from 1,200 to over 1,700 since Toast’s pledge. While it is still a way off from the 3,000 target, there are still more than three weeks to go.
