Button Prompt Woes: Console Players’ Long Wait for Apex Legends Updates
Console players are still waiting for updates to the input button prompts, even though Apex Legends has been out for more than four years. Like most well-known online games, Apex Legends has more problems than it should. For instance, users reported connectivity issues after Spellbound’s release earlier this year.
Users have recently reported the occasional log-in problem and computer crash. Minor fixes can fix each of these issues. However, button inputs on the console are one persistent issue that developer Respawn still needs to solve. Apex players are wondering why a task triggered by a single button for the past four years is taking an extended period to execute.
Players of Apex Legends demand that console input buttons be fixed
One significant issue has persisted in Apex Legends after four years, according to Reddit user shocker_103 and lover of the game. Console gamers face the problem of having to use the “X” or “Square” button for multiple actions, including opening/closing doors, reviving friends, and reloading weapons. In a post that included a brief gameplay video and the statement, “This problem [has been] on controllers since launch,” the Redditor stated. In the video, a player continually tries to revive a friend, but the door keeps opening and shutting in their place due to their proximity to a door. Funny enough, the video concludes with a scene from Spider-Man 3 in which Dark Peter berates his landlord for failing to mend a broken door.
Reddit users concur that Apex Legends has to solve the door input immediately. However, some people need to see why distinguishing between the various operations could not be accomplished by just holding the button down. The original poster responded, “You have to hold the button to revive your teammate, but the game thinks you just tapped the button, so it opens the door first.”
Others claim they get around this by holding the button “before any options pop up on the screen,” at this point, they go up to their downed squad member. You can restore a teammate who is blocking a door, yes. Just have to be slick about it,” said another. In any case, logic dictates that eliminating the binding of three distinct functions to a single button input would address these issues. However, it’s possible that managing controller support for Apex Legends is more complicated than gamers think.
