Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 Experience Major Player Drop in Season 2, Facing Criticism

The second season did not turn out as Infinity Ward had hoped. In March, user numbers for Warzone and Modern Warfare 2 plummeted to all-time lows. On November 20, 488,897 concurrent people were playing Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2. Just 17 days later, that number fell to 217,328, representing a 56% decline in users.

Since a sharp downturn, nothing has changed. Steam Charts reports that the average player count fell to a new low of 90,000 after reaching a high of 156,956 in March. Coincidentally, Season 2 began on March 9, and it might be the catalyst for a comeback for both titles.

Instead, key players, including JGOD and Aydan, criticized the seasonal upgrade and left, as many others have done over the previous 30 days. For game enthusiasts, this trend is unsettling, but others are hopeful that one of the biggest gaming brands will change due to the declining player base.

Members of the MW2 and WZ2 communities welcome doom

Members of the Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 communities came together in jubilation over the failure of both games to live up to expectations. Although only PC players are taken into consideration by Steam Charts, the data still paints a sobering picture. One resident wishes for the trend to continue: “I hope it goes to zero.” I last played the game about two weeks ago. It is evident when the game is terrible, and the developers only worry about store bundles.

Players of Warzone 2 claimed that Infinity Ward lost out on a great chance to profit from a competitive FPS market. “Because it’s COD, this game won’t ever go away like BF2042, but it’s still such a shame how they bricked the simplest layup in gaming history,” said one player.

Some locals are hoping that the poor results will serve as a wake-up call to the investors. “Good. Make clear to them how badly they blew it. Based on the Battle Pass schedule in-game, we anticipate the start of WZ2 and MW2 Season 3 to be on April 12. We’ll keep you updated on whether the new season is successful in rekindling players’ interest in the most recent Call of Duty game.
