According to a recent Pokemon HOME leak, backward compatibility will finally be added to the cloud storage service, allowing users to transmit Generation 9 Pokemon back to Generation 8 games. Pokemon Home, a free smartphone and Nintendo Switch software, was first available in February 2020. The primary purpose of Pokemon Home is to serve as a cloud-based repository for people to keep Pokemon they have discovered and evolved throughout their adventures.
Pokemon kept in HOME, however, can only be moved to more recent games. For instance, a Pokemon captured in Sword & Shield can be transported forward to Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, but the opposite is not currently possible.
A new leak suggests that the Pokemon HOME app will be backward compatible
But following a recent leak that received a lot of attention on Reddit, fans of the Nintendo brand are predicting that HOME will soon support older consoles. An image of the Time Capsule from previous Pokemon video games is included in the leak, published by Khu’s Fashionable Hat on Twitter. This gadget was a feature that let players trade Pokemon to Pokémon Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow in Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal. This leak might be a sign that players will be able to send their Generation 9 Pokemon back to games from the previous Generation.
But given that all Pokemon from earlier games were saved via the now-defunct Pokemon Bank app, it’s likely that players will only be able to travel as far back as Generation 8. A function that is no longer updated because the Nintendo Eshop for DS systems has been shut down. Pokemon fans have started speculating in the Reddit thread about what this might signify for the future of Pokemon and whether or not this leak has any merit.
Pokemon lovers are ecstatic about the opportunity to trade Pokemon
User: “Backwards compatibility between gen eight and gen nine games would be incredible, mainly because trade evolutions like Scizor can be easily done in Legends Arceus, and I can use the Pokemon/shiny in SwSh that I catch in SV.”
You could always send Pokemon forward, but it’s been eons since we were able to send them backward, a different player added. It’s crucial to understand that we can only achieve Hisuian evolutions with a particular criterion. We can breed or capture these Pokemon in SV and then send them to PLA to evolve if Home has backward compatibility.
