The code and in-game materials for the Master Ball and Shadow Raids update were built by reputable Pokemon Go leakers PokeMiners, who also provided the datamine. The data mine also uncovered more details about the Pokemon Go Plus+ gadget and possible Sleep settings for Pokemon Sleep. The text connected to the Research plotline regarding how trainers will obtain the Master Ball was found in the datamine surrounding the Master Ball Research.

New information on Shadow Raids and the new Shadow Gem items trainers can obtain was also gleaned from the datamine. The leak claims that Shadow Gems would lower the boss’ attack and defense numbers during a raid. In order to create a functioning Shadow Gem, trainers will also need to combine four Shadow Shards. Finally, the Pokemon Go Plus+ device’s many additional features were discovered. The gadget will serve as a step counter and a specific Poke Ball thrower. Great Balls or Ultra Balls can be assigned to the device’s middle button, which will turn off after its associated Poke Balls have run out.
