The new Go Battle Day ticket hasn’t gone over well with Pokemon Go fans because some believe it allows gamers to “buy Stardust with real money.” The Pokemon Go community has not been fond of developer Niantic for some time, but since the beginning of 2023, there has been an increase in fan anger for various reasons.
The developer’s adjustments to the financial component of Pokemon Go, with products like Remote Raid Passes and Pokemon Go Fest tickets becoming more expensive, are perhaps the most significant. Fans are now upset with the new Go Battle Day ticket, which some belief effectively allows players to purchase Stardust for $1, an item that isn’t typically available in the Shop.
Trainers for Pokemon Go mock the new Go Battle Day ticket
A trainer screenshotted the new Go Battle Day ticket and its explanation, which led to a post on the Pokemon Go subreddit that ignited a dispute among players. The newly released ticket is for the Go Battle Day: Stardust Timed Research activity, which grants participants 25,000 Stardust, 3 Rare Candies, and 1 Star Piece. Notably, players must pay $1 for a ticket in order to participate in the Timed Research.
For a number of reasons, including the fact that Stardust is not typically an item that players may buy with money, this ticket drew criticism from the community. I just bought Stardust, that’s all. Please give us at LEAST a couple of green passes so we can participate in more encounters and battles, pleaded one trainer. At the same time, another expressed amazement that anything similar hadn’t occurred earlier. “I’m shocked that they haven’t tried commercializing Stardust sooner; I assumed this would be an easy method for them to make money.
Some agreed that a $1 purchase wasn’t all that horrible, but some felt that the Stardust prize was excessive. “I mean…yeah, okay, fine, it’s a $1 purchase that’s optional. But even so. It is Stardust. The only item in the game other than Pokeballs that is consistently free. It’s difficult to predict whether in-app purchases like this particular ticket will appear in the future because the Stardust Timed Research ticket might only be available once. However, supporters believe Niantic pushes the envelope a little bit with events like this.
