Sentinels Make Position Changes to Secure First Win in VCT Americas League

Sentinels had a different appearance when they made their stage debut on the VCT Americas stage because some of their positions had been switched between Bryan “pANcada” Luna, Rory “dephh” Jackson, and Gustavo “Sacy” Rossi. In a post-game interview aired on the Brazilian feed, Sacy described the modifications.

Sentinels defeated 100 Thieves 2-1 to earn their first win in 2023 in the VCT Americas league. Due to their time away from the tournament(Sentinels only played two maps at the VCT tournament) and some position changes, the team appeared revitalized.

At LOCK//IN, pANcada served as the team’s primary Controller, with Sacy handling initiator duties and Dephh filling in as the Sentinel on some maps. However, Sentinels reversed those roles in the video game against 100 Thieves: pANcada took over lurking responsibilities on Killjoy and Viper, Sacy assumed the central Controller position, and dephh resorted to Initiators on some locations.

Sentinels secure the VCT Americas League’s first win

Sacy and pANcada discussed the adjustments and their opinions of them on the Brazilian broadcast after the game. Sacy admitted, “We didn’t have a Sentinel on the squad. “The idea of me playing a Controller came about after the coaching staff wanted to try pANcada out in this position. For God’s sake, dude, I changed from League of Legends to Valorant as if I would worry about changing roles. I’m having fun, and things are going well. I still have a lot to learn because it’s fresh.

The role is a little more straightforward on Killjoy with the turret to assist, according to pANcada, who noted in the same interview that he was a lurker earlier in his professional career, so the shift wasn’t too abrupt.

The changes affected Zachary “zekken” Patrone and Tyson “TenZ” Ngo, who continued to perform the duelist and flex roles, respectively, because they appeared more cohesive with the team. Both players finished with over 60 kills, making them the best two players in the series in terms of kills and killdeath ratio. On April 9, Sentinels will return to the server for their second VCT Americas division game against NRG.
