Chris Pratt’s voice similarity to Tony Soprano’s loses him the Super Mario Bros Role

Chris Pratt was initially cast as Mario in the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie however, his voice from the original version of Mario wasn’t considered due to its similarity to Tony’s voice.

On The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Pratt revealed his audition for Tony Soprano on the HBO series The Sopranos. Unfortunately, producers weren’t fond of his voice sounding like that of someone different than what to feature in the movie;. However, his character was base on Tony Soprano from that show.

Pratt acknowledged directors had different ideas for Mario, so he felt the need to create something fresh. Although he didn’t reveal who would be providing the voice, he expressed his delight that fans would get to hear it.

Super Mario Bros. movie, produced by Illumination (the same studio behind Despicable Me and Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch adaptation), will hit theaters on December 21, 2022! Enjoy an animated adventure brought to you by Illumination!
