Cross-Progression on the Horizon: Apex Legends Datamine Hints at Impending Release
A data miner working on Apex Legends has discovered evidence that suggests the cross-progression feature might go online sooner rather than later. Apex fans have been clamoring for years for cross-progression, which would let them use their existing accounts on numerous platforms without creating new ones. The video game’s developer, Respawn, has previously announced that the much-desired addition had been put into development, but it has yet to be released to the public.
Late in 2022, Respawn gave fans an update concerning cross-progression and informed them that development was still in progress. In a conversation a month ago with GameSpot, Senior Design Director Evan Nikolich gave the assurance that “it’s getting done.” Still, he refused to provide any release-related specifics. On the other hand, the findings of a data miner suggest that the wait might end sooner rather than later.
The data mine from Apex Legends could provide some insight into cross-progression
After Respawn released the Dress to Kill event, data miners AG240 and KralRindo discovered a few notable file names in the game’s database. This was found and reported by Dot Esports. KralRindo claims that the cross-progression tags in the files in question were added to Apex to improve its user interface (UI). According to the person who leaked the information, this could indicate that the eagerly-anticipated feature is finally coming.
It is essential to keep in mind that the developer, Respawn, still needs to provide a launch date for the cross-progression technology that will be included in Apex Legends. Fans should keep this in mind before getting too excited. Regardless of what the new file names imply, the feature may arrive soon, but it is also possible that the release date will not be set for several months.
The way things are set up right now, Apex players can transfer their data between their accounts on Steam and Origin. However, no such mechanism is available for console players, and Lead Producer Drew McCoy has stated in the past that accomplishing such a feat is impossible. The studio eventually reversed its position, much to the satisfaction of its legions of devoted followers. However, for now, gamers must continue waiting to implement cross-progression.
