Donald ‘SyykoNT’ Muir, a former head coach of the Sentinels Valorant, has joined M80 as the esports organization’s new Vice President of Esports. Nearly since the game’s debut, SyykoNT has been a mainstay in North American Valorant, first leading minor teams like Sedated before moving on to lead XSET and then Sentinels. SyykoNT joins Sentinels for the 2023 season after helping XSET win two international competitions in 2022. On April 18, Sentinels let him go after the team’s dismal 1-2 start to the VCT Americas split. Since then, SyykoNT has served as a commentator on North America Challengers League broadcasts.
Now that SyykoNT has been named M80’s new vice president of esports, he is using his talents behind the scenes. IN A PRESS STATEMENT, the CEO and co-founder of M80, Marco Mereu, stated that Don “has a rich track record building and leading championship-caliber esports teams, and his addition to M80 will ensure our continued competitive dominance.”
SyykoNT joins M80 in an executive capacity
Mereu, who co-founded XSET and served as its chief operating officer (COO) until the summer of 2022, will be reunited with SyykoNT in M80. Mereu helped SyykoNT get hired by XSET in 2020, and he now wants to fully capitalize on the coach’s talent for assembling solid rosters. M80 is approaching critical junctures for its teams, and SyykoNT stated, “My sights are set only on positioning our squads for success.” Even though SykkoNT is transitioning to a more general management-type role, future coaching positions are still open.t
He remarked that I haven’t completely closed the door on coaching because I’ve liked it so much. But I’m eager to use the abilities I’ve gained from coaching in my new role as VP of Esports to help M80’s teams, identify up-and-coming talent, and create new initiatives in exciting games. The Valorant team from M80 recently earned a spot in the Americas Ascension competition and will compete against five other teams there for a two-year spot in the VCT Americas. The esports organization sponsors a Street Fighter player and has Rainbow Six: Siege and Rocket League teams.
