The future feature that will be added to PokeStops, named Showcases, will be available early, according to an announcement made by Pokemon Go; however, this will only be the case in certain regions. Niantic, the company responsible for developing Pokemon Go, has hinted that the game will soon receive two new features: PokeStop Showcases and Route Creation.
The developer made this feature available to trainers attending the 2023 Summer Game Fest in-person event for early testing. However, the opportunity was only available for a couple of days. Now, Niantic has announced that users can test out PokeStop Showcases “for a limited time,” although the test will only be conducted in a single part of the world.
Niantic is currently testing a new PokeStop feature in one region
The news was announced on the official Niantic Support Twitter account, which stated, “Trainers in New Zealand, you’ll be able to experience a new feature at select PokéStops for a limited time.” This confirms that the new feature will be available in New Zealand. It was mentioned in the tweet that trainers would be able to “enter Pokemon” and “see how they rank” in contrast to the monsters that were owned by other trainers, even though the statement was ambiguous about what “new feature” would be tested.
Although not much is known about the PokeStop Showcases just yet, we do know that trainers who stop at these unique PokeStops will have the opportunity to enter their Pokemon in competitions broken down into various categories. One of the scenarios that Niantic provided was a competition to see who could enter the Pokemon with the most significant size limit. In addition, fans are aware that after PokeStop Showcases have been fully launched, there will be a range of various contest categories to choose from.
Regrettably, there is a lack of clarity in the material that pertains to this testing period. When this article is written, it was unknown which PokeStops would be used to host this feature, nor how long players in New Zealand could test out Showcases. There needs to be more information regarding whether or not Route Creation will also go through a beta testing phase compared to the other features. For now, gamers in New Zealand can keep an eye out for unique PokeStops to get a feel for Showcases before their official release.
