Overwatch 2 Players Criticize Lackluster Pride Event as Not Worthy of Being Called an Event

Players of Overwatch 2 have criticized the new Pride Month takeover in the game, calling it “underwhelming” and expressing confusion over how it can even be considered an event. Overwatch 2, a hero-shooter from Blizzard, has recently struggled a lot. Many gamers have lost hope in the game and its future due to the partial cancellation of the PvE mode. Content producers like Samito have briefly left the game, searching for better opportunities.

According to Blizzard devs, the PvE will still be there in the game but will be scaled back from what was initially intended. Although the limitless replayability of the PvE Mode has been removed to support the game’s present state better, players should still expect story content in the game. However, players are up in arms once more for a different cause amid the hero shooter’s stormy stretch. This time, the community has criticized Blizzard for hosting an “underwhelming” Pride event in June.

Players of Overwatch 2 attack Blizzard over the Pride event

Overwatch 2 will officially celebrate Pride Month this year, according to Blizzard. Many fan speculations regarding heroes like Baptiste and Pharah were confirmed when the heroes’ true identities were made public. Along with a short story, Blizzard also placed Pride flags and confetti on the Midtown map and issued several player cards that reflect various LGBTQ+ identities in the video game. However, many players believe this thing isn’t even an event.

“Really? The developers of a multi-billion dollar firm classify adding a few flags and confetti to an already existing map as an ‘event.’ It would be like to call the recent Cardboard Reinhardt Skin an “event.” What is the occasion? What? There isn’t one? There is one post. “I wouldn’t have known there was an event going on if I didn’t follow Overwatch on Twitter. I genuinely attempted to check for a new update before realizing the Pride event was underway. No welcome message, loading screen, brand-new game mode, no new objectives with rewards,” the original poster said. Blizzard has come under fire for failing to make it clear when an event is active in-game, leading some gamers to believe that the company “stealthily updated” the event.

Overwatch Two participants believe the Pride event was “stealth updated” in

“Yeah, the updated map and icons are available. I might have noticed if I had been aware of it. They sneaked those updates in, a user said. Others also noted one of the first occasions in Overwatch 2 where no challenges gave players battle pass XP or cosmetics. “How little effort was put into this is evident by the lack of an event menu background or tiny event banner in the bottom right corner of the menu… Additionally, this is the first “event” without any challenges that would award battle pass experience points or cosmetics, a Redditor noted.

“I had hoped they would at least replicate the Gardener Symmetra event… Obtain some XP, win some games, and perhaps obtain a vocal line and a spray. It’s sad,” echoed a different user. Uncertainty surrounds whether Blizzard would employ any ploys to placate players in the upcoming weeks. Still, for now, some players undoubtedly need to experience the Pride that Blizzard had hoped for.
