Overwatch 2 Introduces Revolutionary ‘Hero Progression’ System to Track and Enhance Player Performance

The makers of Overwatch 2 have announced a completely new “hero progression” system that will be introduced shortly. This system will track and identify how players play the game. The developers deleted the previous player rating system from the first game entirely before the release of Overwatch 2, but beginning with Season 6, a new progression system will keep track of individual characters, each of whom will have their own levels.

Game Director Aaron Keller reviewed the new system and outlined how it differs from the one used in the previous title during a live webcast to discuss the Overwatch 2: Invasion season. In contrast to OW1, this system will keep track of individual heroes using specific novel measures exclusive to the series to track their statistics.

New unlockables have been added to the advancement system in Overwatch 2

Heroes will each have their own set of statistics to level up, and as players go through the levels, they will be able to unlock new name cards and special insignia. This was demonstrated throughout the broadcast.

For example, one of the pictures for Reinhardt demonstrates how the video game keeps track of the amount of time played, the wins, the damage dealt, the hits from Firestrike, the stuns from Earthshatter, and more.

All of these subcategories have the potential to level up, which will result in the acquisition of emblems and possibly even badges. “You can go into your career profile, check out the progression system, and kind of get a story for how your particular hero plays the game,” Keller stated. “All of these things can be found within the game.” “We don’t limit the amount of experience you can get because we don’t want to incentivize you to play in a certain way,” said the developer.

Keller also mentioned that as players advance in the game, they will be able to acquire higher-level versions of their name cards and new name cards as they progress. Along with the highly-anticipated story missions and a brand-new mode called Flashpoint, the new Overwatch 2 advancement system is scheduled to be released in August.
