Players of Overwatch 2 have found that Brigette’s flair can pass through specific regions of other characters’ hitboxes. Brigitte is one of the heroes in Overwatch who has generated the most controversy. She gained notoriety for becoming one of the game’s most potent heroes after her release in 2018. Many still retain the wounds from the war over the months it took Blizzard to nerf her to a manageable level.
She even contributed to the development of GOATS, a three-support, three-tank style of play that dominated the top-level competition for almost a year. She’s considerably more composed now and a good choice for a specialist Support role. A flanking hero is frightening your backline, or experts have picked her. Even a recent buff to her that restored a stun to her ultimate has yet to make much of a difference for her. She now takes pleasure in her position in the middle of the meta. However, a critical component of her arsenal may involve unfairly punishing players due to some hitbox mischief.
Brigitte’s Flail can pierce portions of heroes that have been changed
On Reddit, user TylerOfTrades posted a video demonstrating how some characters, particularly those who change, can be instantly destroyed by Brigitte’s Flail. In the video, she can be seen using her Rocket Flail to pierce Ramatra’s limbs and Bastion’s turret when they are in their Nemesis Forms. Accordingly, even if a player intentionally hits a character with the Flail to boot them back, it won’t work if it reaches certain places.
In the comments, one person claims to be aware of the situation. “I guess that Melee, like tf2, uses the bounding boxes and not the hitboxes,” they claim. Rectangles called bounding boxes are used to account for collisions around characters. Unlike the characters’ rigid hitboxes, this is different. Rocket Flail uses those boxes more often than the hero’s external border.
This is usually acceptable as long as the hitbox and bounding box are close to one other. But for characters like Bastion and Ramattra, who can morph, that is the problem. This will only cost players games in the big scheme. Nevertheless, a lot of missed flails can get annoying. We’ll have to wait and see if Blizzard has any ideas for improving this interaction.
