Players of Overwatch 2 are complaining that the new audio adjustments to the hero shooter’s reverb are hurting their ears and distorting everything. On June 12, Overwatch 2’s Season 5 debuted, bringing a host of new modifications to the game. This contained significant buffs to support the character Lifeweaver, and significant nerfs to sniper characters.
Certain fundamental principles were also altered, notably with the popular On Fire system’s comeback. A few significant changes were also made to matchmaking, which should reduce the skill gap between all game modes. The audio update, which has players covering their ears in agony, is one tweak that has yet to be warmly accepted.
The new music in Overwatch 2 hurts everyone’s ears
Players have reported weird audio after the Season 5 update, particularly affecting spoken lines from teammates. There have been multiple instances of distorted audio, occasionally sounding robotic and hurting people’s ears due to how artificial it can sound. On Xbox Series X, the audio is broken; a player who noticed the fault noted it. All teammates’ audio is in your ear as if you are standing right next to them. And the radio filter has also slightly distorted it. I’ve tested my console and headphones but am at a loss.
Another thread also highlighted the problems with the statement, “Does anyone else’s audio sound worse following the update? Was this an update component, or perhaps a coincidence? The responses are replete with examples and complaints from gamers perplexed by the audio alterations and who found the update unappealing.
Someone commented, “Definitely—particularly several of the teammates’ automated voicemail messages. Typically, the voice lines sound like they are coming from the radio while you are far away from your teammates. However, the radio effect is no longer there, and the sound is now always as close to your ear as possible.
Another player of Overwatch 2 responded, “Not just you, everyone I’ve played with is also experiencing it. It seems like they decided to change the radio effects, and it’s giving me some ear pain because it is unpleasant.” Yea, it’s f**king horrible, said one particularly outraged admirer. I only came to this sub to see if anyone has posted anything about it. My headset would be slammed against the wall because I thought it was dying. I went 1-4 because my audio was disorganized and made me crazy.
