A Tribute to Twisten: Valorant Community Honors the Late Pro at VCT Masters Tokyo

Before the beginning of the international event, the broadcast of the VCT Masters Tokyo included a brief message to viewers in which respect was paid to the late Valorant pro-Karel ‘Twisten’ Aenbrener. VCT Masters Tokyo desks hosts Yinsu ‘Yinsu’ Collins and Alex ‘Goldenboy’ Mendez appeared on the Riot Games broadcast before the pre-show portions to pay tribute to Twisten, who passed away on the evening of June 6. Since his passing, people in the community and other professionals alike have paid tribute to his memory through online statements and made commitments to donate money to charitable organizations. Several community members have decided to carry on Twisten’s charity project from the VCT LOCK//IN. During that event, he contributed $27 for each Shorty kill achieved at the competition.

VCT EMEA talent member Ryan ‘RyanCentral’ Horton, streamer and former Team Liquid head coach Connor ‘Sliggy’ Blomfield, M80 founder and CEO Marco Mereu, and former CS:GO pro and Valorant streamer Tarik ‘tarik’ Celik, along with a large number of other people, have all pledged to donate money in Twisten’s honor for every Shorty kill in this tournament and Valorant Champions.

During a brief segment, Yinsu and Goldenboy expressed their sympathies to Twisten’s family and friends, and they asked viewers to make donations to Take This and the European Alliance Against Depression instead of flowers.

Goldenboy remarked that Karel was one of the most exciting players for the Valorant team. “We will miss seeing him on stage.” In addition to this, he said, “Let’s show the strength of the Valorant community when the community needs it the most.”

During this part, it seemed Yinsu was fighting back the tears while sporting cat ears. In a message she made on Twitter after the episode, she stated that she had given Twisten a pair of cat ears to wear as a good luck charm for a match that had taken place less than a month earlier between Team Vitality and Team Heretics. “I will be wearing it again today for Masters, thinking of you,” she added in the text message.
