The designers of Valorant chose to honor the memory of the late professional player Gizem ‘Luie’ Harmankaya by naming a Player Title that can be earned through the Episode 6 Act 3 Battle Pass after her in-game alias. A Player Title that displays the Turkish Valorant pro player Luie’s in-game name has been added to the Episode 6 Act 3 Battle Pass. This honor comes as a result of the addition of the Player Title to the Riot Games title. Fans will be able to remember the player in-game if they make it past Tier 5 of the Battle Pass, as it is a free prize after reaching that point.
After the new Battle Pass and patch were made available to players on April 25, Jo-Ellen Aragon made the homage public. “An extraordinary tribute in memory of Gizem “Luie” Harmankaya in the new Battlepass,” she stated. “Always keep Gizem and Luie in your hearts.” Luie passed away due to the earthquake that struck Turkey on February 6, 2023, after she had been buried in debris for about three days before her death. On February 8, 2023, it was confirmed that she had passed away. Her friends in Turkey who found her reported that officials abandoned her in the wake of the 7.8 magnitude earthquake.
Luie honored in Valorant
Luie competed on the Turkish teams Galakticos Sirens, Unknownpros Female, and Vivace Vista while participating in the Valorant Game Changers circuit in EMEA. Since 2021, she has been competing in Valorant at a level considered professional, having gotten her start on Galakticos.
Following the news that the player had passed away, a number of players and members of the professional Valorant community paid tribute to her online. These included coaches and even the head of the EMEA Game Changers. Riot Games Turkey also expressed its sympathies.
The player’s in-game name will be displayed alongside their player title whenever a player is in a lobby or on the loading screen for a match. In most cases, you can acquire them by making progress in your Battle Pass or Agent contract, redeeming a code, or competing in and winning professional Valorant tournaments. Luie is the very first professional player for Valorant to have their name associated with the brand in any capacity.
