The Guard Triumphs in Americas Ascension Grand Final, Securing VCT Berth and a Two-Year Promotion

In the Americas Ascension Grand Final, The Guard defeated M80 3-1 and secured a two-year berth in VCT. As the Valorant squad defeated M80 3-1 in the Americas Ascension Grand Final to secure a two-year promotion into VCT Americas, The Guard will return to tier 1 competition in 2024. The organization had to enter the competition through the North American Valorant Challengers League because it was not selected to join the Riot Games-partnered league when it began in 2023.

Upon the initial announcement of the league, the esports organization received an invitation to join and decided to retain four crucial players from the 2022 season. The Guard finished third in the Mid-Se

ason Face Off while compiling a first-split 4-1 record in the Challengers League. The team carried over this performance into the second half of the season, finishing the group stage on another 4-1 run. Also, the Guard and M80 placed in the top two of the playoff round and advanced to America’s Ascension. The team went 2-0 in the group stage, swept through the upper bracket, and moved to the Grand Final while undefeated during the promotion event.

The Guard will receive the same advantages as associated teams with its promotion into VCT Americas, including a stipend from Riot Games and the chance to qualify for Masters and Challengers in the 2024 and 2025 VCT seasons. The team and its players can make money through Valorant Champions’ in-game skin sales if they win.

It remains unclear whether The Guard and other Ascension-supported teams have the ability to create team-branded skins and generate revenue from them, similar to other affiliated teams.In 2024, The Guard will make its VCT Americas debut in the tier 1 Valorant league against teams like Cloud9, NRG Esports, and Sentinels. The organization will return to the Challengers League for the 2026 season but has only secured a two-year stay.
