Nick “nitr0” Cannella Leaves Door Open for Valorant Comeback After CS:GO Departure

Nick “nitr0” Cannella of Team Liquid did not rule out continuing his esports playing career after leaving CS:GO, which leaves the door open for a potential comeback to Valorant. After the birth of his second child, the 27-year-old said the “amount of travel has become too much” and that IEM Dallas will be his final CS:GO competition. Although he acknowledged that he “would love to continue playing competitively,” nitr0 said then that he would concentrate on streaming and spending more time with his family. ‘Captain America’ also did not rule out continuing his playing career in another game during an interview at IEM Dallas.

“I’m retiring from Counter-Strike, but I’m leaving my options open for other video games and stuff,” he said to Dust2.us. If I receive an offer, I’ll consider it, but for now, there isn’t anything else I can do but start my stream and see where that leads me. I’m just not interested right now. Therefore, I won’t be actively looking for another Counter-Strike squad.

The career of Valor for nitr0

After six years of competitive CS:GO play, nitr0 transitioned to Valorant in 2020 and joined 100 Thieves, teaming up with former CS:GO players Spencer ‘Hiko’ Martin, Peter ‘Asuna’ Mazuryk, Joshua’steel’ Nissan, and Ethan ‘Ethan’ Arnold. In late 2021, that squad competed in the VCT Stage 3 Masters Berlin semifinals, but the lineup disintegrated due to a string of unfavorable results. Nitr0 rejoined Team Liquid, the CS:GO, team, with which he had won the $1 million Intel Grand Slam Season 2 award in January 2022.

Even with the high-profile recruitment of Latvian star Mareks ‘YEKINDAR’ Gainskis, Team Liquid has needed help finding success lately. The squad battled back to reach the playoff round of the BLAST Paris Major after falling behind 0-2 early on, but Apeks defeated them in the quarterfinals. Nitr0 could satisfy his competitive thirst with a more manageable travel schedule if he returned to Valorant. Teams from the VCT Americas only leave the country for international events, spending most of the year in Los Angeles, where the league’s games are played.

Team Liquid has participated in competitions since the year’s beginning in countries including Denmark, Poland, Malta, France, Mexico, and the United States. In Europe, where competition is much fiercer, top North American teams must also spend extended periods boot camping. Later on today, Team Liquid will play FaZe in the lower bracket semifinal of Group B. This match might be the last one nitr0 ever plays in CS:GO.
