Former Overwatch League Star “Super” to Compete for Team USA in Overwatch World Cup

The official Twitter account for the USA Overwatch World Cup has confirmed that retired Overwatch League of Legends great tank player Matthew’super’ DeLisi will participate in the competition. In 2023, the Overwatch World Cup will make its comeback, and teams have already begun announcing their lineups in preparation for the competition. The roster for Team USA has been released on Twitter, and it includes a player who is well-known to followers of the Overwatch League.

The squad has announced that the former tank player known as “Super.” Whoever has since retired from esports to pursue a content creator career will compete for his country in the competition. Also, he announced his retirement on March 27, 2022. Citing exhaustion and a lack of interest in the video game as the reasons for his decision.

The United States of America defeated China in the Overwatch World Cup 2019 championship game by a 3-0 to claim the title of champions. The player’s previous team was the San Francisco Shock. The player was also very successful in the Overwatch League. And was an integral part of the Shock’s run in 2020, during which they won the Countdown Cup, the May Melee, and the league as a whole.

The former Overwatch League player has not announced his comeback on any of his social media accounts, although he has been streaming Overwatch as of late. The Overwatch World Cup has yet to start. And the dates for when the primary competition is scheduled to begin have yet to be disclosed. Also, the event has often formed between the end of October and the beginning of November. The online qualifier stage for the teams will begin sometime in June, with Team USA placed in group A.

Only Super will return from the team winning the World Cup in 2019. Therefore it will be a completely new lineup. Every member of that 2019 squad is now either retired, cannot be rostered for an OWL team, or has made the transition to Valorant.
