Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Keeps Hyrule Alive: Reusing Breath of the Wild’s Iconic Setting

Eiji Aonuma, the creator of The Legend of Zelda, and Hidemaro Fujibayashi, the game’s director, said that Nintendo had always intended to use the Hyrule developed in Breath of the Wild for their forthcoming game, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

One of the most anticipated releases of 2023 is expected to be The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The video game industry always celebrates the release of a new Zelda game. Nintendo has relied on the nearly 30-year-old brand because fans adore every title in the series. As the first open-world adventure, the 2015 Zelda game Breath of the Wild completely changed the franchise. The development team is bringing Hyrule, a famous area, to life like never before.

Both game director Hidemaro Fujibayashi and series producer Eiji Aonuma stated in a Nintendo-sponsored interview that the Zelda team had always intended to reuse Hyrule from Breath of the Wild for Tears of the Kingdom.

Zelda Breath Wild Hyrule

Director Hidemaro Fujibayashi explained, “Just like somewhere you know inside and out, we knew where everything is in Hyrule from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. For that reason, we believed it was possible to build fresh gameplay.  “Due to this, we made it very explicit in the initial proposal that ‘the setting will not change’ was a key idea. No concerns were raised when I first brought this up with the team members. And we all agreed on it from that point forward.

Hyrule will be updated in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and lifted into the skies

This is not the first time Nintendo has utilized the Zelda series in this manner. The firm released Majora’s Mask shortly after The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, its first 3D adventure, found success. Similar to BOTW and TotK, these two games share the same Link character and similar aesthetics, designs, and character types. However, Link traveled to a different area in Termina in Majora’s Mask. Players will return to the same Hyrule in Tears of the Kingdom.

Whatever the case, the forthcoming game has done its best to modernize Hyrule. Players can now design vehicles for transportation, explore the sky and land above, and do much more.
