Rural Pokemon Go gamers believe Niantic is ‘bullying’ them with the current Masterwork Research repeat. Fans of Pokemon Go who might have missed the news can now participate in the #151 Masterwork Research from Go Fest 2021, thanks to Niantic.
Trainers can have the chance to see a Shiny Mew after completing this Masterwork Research, which is a paid event. But the tasks needed to finish it are everything but simple. Because they must locate uncommon and exotic Pokemon to complete the Research, some rural and casual Pokemon players have begun to worry whether Niantic is ‘bullying’ them.
Pokemon Go players criticize Masterwork Research in their complaints
The meme image connected to a post on the Pokemon Go subreddit with the headline “I’m pretty sure Niantic just loves to bully rural/casual players” drew users’ attention. In essence, the meme illustrated how many people paid $5 for the Masterwork Research in hopes of getting a Shiny Mew but discovered that it was restricted to those with Platinum Kanto Medals. Only those who capture 151 original Pokemon from the Kanto area can obtain this Medal.
Due to uncommon Pokemon like the Legendary Birds and Mewtwo, as well as others that only spawn in foreign nations like Kangaskhan, Farfetch’d, and Mr. Mime, this is easier said than done. Some people were also dissatisfied with how the tasks were organized because obtaining the Platinum Kanto Medal was the first job in the Research. As a result, those stuck while attempting to finish it are kept from progressing to Step 2 and beyond.
The OP commented, “Feels extra scummy that not only was there no clear indication such a tall order was required for completion before purchase, but it’s the very first task too, locking players who can’t get these Pokémon out of every other task in the whole thing.” Although there was a lot of opposition in the comments, other people argued that this Research was designed to take a while and that difficult-to-find Pokemon would surface more frequently. While it’s unclear whether those difficult-to-catch Pokemon will become more accessible in 2023, some rural fans aren’t hopeful.
