Overwatch 2 PvE Story Missions: Co-op Exclusivity and Multiplayer Focus Take Center Stage in Season 6

The first round of Overwatch 2 PvE Story Missions is finally locked in for Season 6 after years of anticipation, and we can say with certainty that they cannot be played alone. At BlizzCon 2019, Overwatch 2 was initially made public four years ago. During this presentation, fans saw a strong vision for PvE (player versus environment) content.

The sequel has seen a significant alteration in the years since. Much to the community’s dismay, the endlessly replayable Hero Missions have been wholly abandoned. And the advertised Story Missions are no longer arriving all at once. Instead, they are planned to be released gradually as seasonal content, with gamers having to pay for lifetime access to each chapter. We now understand what to anticipate from the first of these PvE Story Missions after thoroughly examining Seasons 5 and 6. Blizzard revealed these Story Missions are co-op exclusive and cannot be performed solo in an interview with Game Informer.

Overwatch 2 PvE Story Missions are co-op only, according to Blizzard

Game Informer discovered that all Story Missions are cooperative after obtaining a sneak peek of specific Season 6 material. They verified, “There are always other human players involved in these Story Missions. When you choose a task and start the game, matchmaking will automatically pair you up with additional players to complete the team. You might also get together with some pals and load in as a group.

It’s important to understand that this implies Story Missions cannot be experienced independently. Blizzard reassured that even if a player withdraws mid-game. An AI bot will take their place while matchmaking tries to locate another human player. You will, therefore, constantly be surrounded by other heroes. It remains to be seen if this may alter in the future in light of player input. However, Blizzard purposefully created these new Story Missions with multiplayer heroes in mind from the bottom up, balancing around a complete squad at all times.
