Overwatch 2 Devs Hint at Resurrecting PvE Hero Skills in a Different Form

The dropped PvE Hero skills may return to the game in the future, according to the Overwatch 2 development team, but with a new twist. When the developers revealed that the eagerly anticipated PvE element of the game would differ drastically from what was promised in 2019, the Overwatch fandom was saddened on May 16.

Although a story campaign will still be released in Season 6, some highly anticipated ideas, such as hero missions and unlocking ability skills, were dropped due to how difficult it would be to produce them. As a result, when the campaign begins, players won’t be able to summon a lot of Torbjorn turrets or make enormous snowballs like Mei. Still, Game Director Aaron Keller has hinted at other ideas for the deleted content.

Devs of Overwatch 2 tease the resurrection of axed PvE Hero skills

In an interview with GameSpot, Keller was questioned about Hero skills that are specialized to PvE and how they might be used differently in PvP or future story campaigns. We would love to see more of that in the game, but since we are no longer performing our Hero Missions, which were a big part of it, they won’t be added to the game that way, according to Keller. “So, we’d like to bring those back in the future. It will only take shape differently than participating in a brand-new cooperative gaming experience.

Although it’s still being determined how they will be used, some designs may eventually return to Overwatch. Keller, though, was more confident that specific planned hero missions might materialize in the future.

“We’ve discussed and planned extensively about the various ways that we can advance some of the other content, including Heroes talents and even some of the missions that we started working on for that release, but everything will be released seasonally in a different format and for another reason than what we had before. We want to reuse some of it, he continued. Although it’s unclear when certain deleted content will return to the video game, at least nothing will be thrown away. Even while it’s not exactly what was initially promised, gamers will finally enjoy the new PvE experience in Season 6, the biggest season of Overwatch 2 to date.
