Role Swaps and Team Dynamics: Sentinels Player Sacy Discusses Marved’s Impact in a Podcast

Sentinels player Gustavo ‘Sacy’ Rossi talked about swapping roles and how pleased he was when Jimmy ‘Marved’ Nguyen entered the starting lineup and took over Controller responsibilities in a podcast regarding the team’s overall season. Sacy switched from playing primarily as an initiate to controlling specific maps, while pANcada switched from holding to being a sentinel. The modifications did not last, though, as in Week 4 of the VCT Americas, Sacy returned to the Initiators after Sentinels changed coaches and substituted Marved for an injured Tyson ‘TenZ’ Ngo. Sacy was frank about his dislike of playing smokes for his team when discussing the shift to Controller on a podcast with Marved, pANcada, and Sentinels’ current head coach Adam ‘Kaplan’ Kaplan.

“The adjustment in roles was challenging. I asked pANcada a lot of questions. Being a Controller is a f****** hard job, and after playing it in official matches, I appreciate you guys playing it now,” Sacy stated. Sacy gave a resounding “no” when Kaplan asked if he missed playing smokes for the team. When I arrived, Sacy exclaimed, “I’m so glad you’re playing the Controller now,” Marved recalled.

Sacy remarked that while his Omen performance wasn’t terrible, his Viper performance was appalling. The Brazilian player revealed that the initial decision to promote him to Controller was based on the desire to improve the consistency of TenZ and Zachary ‘Zekken’ Patrone’s positions. Depending on the map before the adjustments, TenZ and Zekken would alternate between Duelist and Initiator.

In the last two weeks of the split, Sentinels finally found their footing, with Marved as Controller, Sacy as Initiator, and pANcada as a Sentinel/Secondary Controller. During that time, the Sentinels’ starting lineup underwent another shift as Rory ‘depth’ Jackson, the team’s former IGL, left the group. Fans of Sentinels will have to wait another two months to watch the team compete in a legitimate match as the group prepares for a chance to qualify for Valorant Champions 2023 in the VCT Americas Last Chance Qualifier.
