Controversial PC Freeze in ALGS Split 2 Finals Leaves OpTic Apex Legends Player Furious
When only eight teams remained in the ALGS Split 2 Finals during Game 3. OpTic Apex Legends player Dropped was enraged. Although the crew quickly notified the administrators on stage, they were not granted a break to fix the problem. The ALGS Split 2 finals featured current ALGS Champions DarkZero and 2023 Split 1 victor TSM competing for the top slot, which was a nail-biter. However, Zer0 from DarkZero went above and above to deliver them the trophy.
The Split was not without controversy, however, as its conclusion was overshadowed by a technical problem that proved fatal for OpTic and for which there were no tech breaks to allow the team to resolve the problem. OpTic’s Mark “Dropped” Thees’ computer crashed midway through game three of the championships. There were eight teams left when this accident happened. Dropped was frozen, unable to react, and was taken out by a stray gunshot and then killed by the barrier.

Dropped questioned the administrators, “My PC is frozen. Can they pause the game?” as they turned their attention to his computer. At this moment in the contest, the game was unfortunately not stopped for Dropped, leaving his teammates William “Skittlecakes” August and Logan “Knoqd” Layou to fight it out alone. The surviving team, now clearly at a disadvantage, would be eliminated soon after Dropped passed away from the barrier, finishing the match in ninth place.
The reaction from Dropped and his Green Wall colleagues was swift and angry. After the tournament was over, Dropped addressed the PC freeze in a tweet, saying, “game crashes in game three and eight squads are left on rotate, DarkZero gets a free win because of it and gets match point.” “They don’t pause the game and just say, ‘Unlucky!'” Continued dropping. “I’m sorry to be that person, but where is the competitive ethics dude, this is a joke. “This can’t happen; we’re playing for hundreds of thousands of dollars.” To stop this, do better EA, better mechanisms must be implemented.
After the catastrophic freeze, OpTic recovered, finishing 14th, second, fifth, and second in the following games. However, as Dropped put it, the squad lost out on a possible match point in that crucial third lobby. In a subsequent tweet, he said, “Don’t want to be exclusively negative. Our team’s ability to recover from a crash and psychologically regroup to finish the LAN in eighth place makes me really pleased. See you at Champs. First LAN as a team, and it will only get better.
