Ridicule and V-Buck Debt: Fortnite Players Unable to Acquire Free Items Face Criticism

Users of Fortnite who have negative in-game cash and cannot acquire free things are being ridiculed for being in V-Buck debt. Fortnite’s in-game currency is called V-Bucks, and it can be purchased with real-world cash. Players can earn V-Bucks by completing various in-game challenges. For example, eight dollars will get you access to one thousand V-Bucks.

The cash may be used in Fortnite’s Battle Royale and Creative game types. It enables the purchase of additional Battle Passes as well as a variety of items that can be customized, such as Emotes, Outfits, and Gliders. Freebies can be obtained in several ways, one of which is through earning or unlocking them. On the other hand, somebody recently discovered that having debt in Fortnite can prevent you from accessing specific free deals.

A player on Fortnite was called out for accumulating V-Bucks debt

A user named Goudafr posted on Reddit with the comment, “I’m too broke to buy free items,” and the phrase was included in the post. The player is shown in the accompanying video clip working in the Item Shop, where they are attempting to unlock free things. However, they now have a balance of -6,910 V-Bucks, preventing them from taking advantage of any deals currently offered. When a Reddit user clicks on an item, such as the Access Core, which has no associated V-Buck value, they are taken to a page that says, “Get V-Bucks.”

It should not surprise that several Fortnite players were taken aback when they learned about their V-Buck debt. However, there were a few people who made sure to include jokes that were made about the original poster. One of the participants in the thread commented that “bro is in debt to Fortnite LMFAO.” Someone person quipped in the comment section, “I heard if you don’t pay off your Fortnite debt, they send the IO to your house, and they reclaim your PS5” Of course, they do not stop there: “MF In FortDebt, he owes some bucks to the FRS.”

Others made it a point to show how it is even possible to get into debt playing Fortnite. Some individuals take advantage of the refund system by purchasing V-Bucks and obtaining a refund on their credit or debit card. After everything is said and done, one user on Reddit claims that “Epic refunds the money and the v-bucks, leaving you in the negative.” If this is the case, Epic’s decision to withhold freebies from accounts with a negative balance would appear to be an appropriate punishment.
