The Overwatch League stated the absence of the Chengdu Hunters at the same time that it published the schedule for the first weekend of the Spring Stage. The statement explained that the Chengdu Hunters are still considering the “future direction of their team.”
The organization Overwatch League (OWL) released a statement on April 18. It regards the absence of the Chengdu Hunters from the Spring Stage schedule. According to the league, the team is currently working on its direction. But the company promised that it would keep the supporters updated as more information becomes available.
In the statement that was released before the beginning of the season, it was said that “ahead of our season start, we wanted to share with the community that the Chengdu Hunters are not included in today’s schedule announcement” since the Chengdu Hunters are “continuing to contemplate the future direction of their team.” One of the teams negatively impacted by the shutdown of Overwatch 2 in mainland China was the Hunters. This was because Blizzard’s Chinese publishing partner for its titles, NetEase, was unable to extend or remake its arrangement. It resulted in the developer’s titles being discontinued throughout the nation.
The fate of Chengdu Hunters has yet to be determined as OWL begins
On the day when the news broke, the Twitter account for the Hunters posted a tweet that read, “Goodbye and sees you again.” HUYA Inc., a company that operates as a live-streaming platform in China, is the owner and operator of the team.
The Overwatch League (OWL) features several teams headquartered in China, including the Hangzhou Spark, Shanghai Dragons, and Guangzhou Charge. All three groups were included on the calendar for the league. Also, they have discovered for its members to compete in the Blizzard title before the beginning of the tournament.
The Hunters don’t have quite as much good fortune. The squad only has four players now listed on its roster, as it was forced to let go of Huang ‘Leave’ Xin and Zhou ‘Mmonk’ Xiang during the free agency period of this year. The Overwatch League is scheduled to get underway on April 27 with competition in the West Region, and on April 29, it will begin in the East Region.
