100 Thieves’ Costly Journey to COD Champs Victory and the Turbulent Rostermania of 2024

In 2022, the 100 Thieves CDL team won COD Champs, but President and COO John Robinson said the season cost the team $2.5 million. Even so, he has no regrets about supporting the team. The summer of CDL Rostermania 2024 has been one of the craziest in recent memory. Four teams, including the LA Thieves, said their entire teams would leave. When ‘Octane’ quit professional Call of Duty at the end of June, the first domino fell for LA.

Envoy, Drazah, and Kenny did the same thing in July and left the group. Envoy is in talks to join Toronto Ultra for the next season, while Drazah has allegedly chosen Atlanta FaZe over OpTic Texas. Kenny’s future is still uncertain, but when he left the 100 Thieves, it ended an era that included a World Championship and several Major wins. Nadeshot and the other leaders of 100 Thieves talked about their plans for the CDL team in the future.

One hundred thieves say they lost $2.5 million during the title season.

During an episode of Nadeshot Knows, 100 Thieves President and COO John Robinson said, “We lost $2,500,000 from our Call of Duty program last year when we were the World Champions.” However, Robinson doesn’t regret that the company chose to support the CDL team. “If I knew there was a World Championship on the other side, would I do it again? Ten times out of ten, yes. I’m glad we did that for our business and our neighborhood.”

Even though the 100 Thieves don’t regret it, that doesn’t mean they plan to spend that much money again on their 2024 CDL team. Robinson talked about how the company chose to cut back for next season. “I think the days of losing millions of dollars on something in the hopes that it will be worth more are over. I don’t think it’s smart to keep doing those things.” Nadeshot talked about how hard it was to lose Envoy and Drazah, Kenny, but he said he couldn’t blame them for taking “more lucrative offers” to support themselves and their families better.

“When players like Octane, Envoy, Kenny, and Drazah help you win titles, you want them to be around for as long as possible. We’re in a bad situation, so that’s not the case. The former Call of Duty pro told 100 Thieves CDL fans that he doesn’t think the price restrictions will stick around for long. “I don’t think 100 Thieves esports will always be like this, where we have to be very careful about how much we spend and be as creative as possible when betting on new players and younger talent.”
