The most competitive Smash Ultimate tournament in Japan’s history, Kagaribi 10, demonstrated why Edgar ‘Sparg0’ Valdez is online to overtake Mario Kart as the all-time most outstanding player. A unique occasion was Kagaribi 10. The highlights of Japan’s golden week were the number of tournaments and the entry of several North American invaders to compete against the top players from the most dominant region.
The competition confirmed what we already knew: Japan is the most vital Smash region globally, but that only emphasizes the outcomes even more. We don’t get to watch the anticipated dream matches at these tournaments too often, but Kagaribi was a treat. It provided us numerous NA vs. JP matches we might never see again. Three of the final eight competitors—Sparg0 from Mexico, Michael ‘Riddles’ Kim from Canada, and Samuel ‘Dabuz’ Buzby from the United States—were from North America. Each representing a different nation was also just ideal.
King’s of New York return
Many people believed that the Canadian Kazuya menace Riddles would perform the best of the four Team Liquid stars in Kagaribi 10, but the King of New York may have had his best Ultimate tournament in a very long time.
Dabuz needed to win five straight sets of five games to finish in fourth place, including a Liquid victory over Riddles. Dabuz was at his finest during this. It appeared as though someone who had just faded from view was making a proper comeback because the Olimar and Rosalina were performed expertly. Baby, Dabuz is back.
Japan impacts in a unique way
The Japanese meta continues to hit differently, with combatants you wouldn’t expect to see in NA or EU, speaking of the top 8. While Hero demonstrates that Bowser is the best of the heavy hitters, and Yoshidora requires no introduction, Zackray continues to pilot Pit to the same extent. In the Winners’ Finals, we finally got to see the storied Sota ‘Zackray’ Okada vs. Mashita ‘cola’ Hayato clash, and it didn’t let us down. Zackray competed throughout the entire competition with the most excellent grin I’ve ever seen. He could hold his own against the most OP fighter in Smash. An individual can go a long way with this mindset.
Soon, Zackray will be able to take a major with his Pit and add yet another title to his impressive list of accomplishments. Will he pick up someone else after that? Since his Pit is so entertaining to watch, I’d like to see him continue pushing Pit before we see one of those typical Zackray main changes.
