Due to a glitch in Overwatch 2, one unfortunate player has been kicked out of Ranked play for the entirety of Season 4. Since the release of Overwatch 2 in October 2022, players have continued to report the ‘applying update’ bug. Because of the bug, players are unable to progress past the screen that reads “applying the update,” which may need them to restart the game. The developers have yet to solve the unpleasant mistake despite it being a problem for a long time.
The irritating problem resulted in a number of other unfavorable outcomes, including the game having to be restarted. The ‘applying update’ issue prevented one player from competing in Season 4 Ranked matches in at least one instance.

Reddit user Ytternoah explained in the Overwatch subreddit why the game barred him from participating in the current Season. The player asserted that he was unable to participate in Ranked matches during the entirety of Season 4 due to a bug involving “applying updates.”

FoxFireLyre opined, “They are going to have to unban everyone that quit or disconnected from this,” and the community took up the suggestion. A community manager working for Blizzard Entertainment discussed the problem in the article’s comments section. According to what Blizz_Craig wrote, “We’ll look into getting this fixed, but we’ll need time to address any Competitive Play bans that may have resulted from this error.” “We’ll look into getting this fixed.” Blizz_Craig was unable to provide a time estimate for when the bug would be fixed. However, he did provide a solution in the meantime. After logging into Overwatch 2, the community manager recommended heading straight to the Practice Range every time.
“Once you have successfully loaded into the Practice Range.
