Rekkles, legendary ADC player, makes surprise switch to support role in LoL
Since starting LoL’s competitive history, Rekkles has been among the most well-known and successful ADC players. However, he is now switching to Support. Although Martin ‘Rekkles’ Larsson has yet to have the best of luck in recent years in terms of remaining at the top level of competition, he was at the forefront of the video game for some of Fnatic’s best seasons, the LEC and EU LCS.
His return to Fnatic has yet to be a win, though strictly. Although their eighth-place finish in the Spring was technically better than their ninth-place finish in the Winter, it is evident that the team needs to make some changes if they hope to have a chance at winning more LEC championships. Rekkles has decided to switch roles and play Support. In the Summer Split, he won’t even be starting for Fnatic, and it’s yet to be known how this will impact Rekkles’ career or who Fnatic will begin as their ADC.
Rekkles divulges unexpected duty change to Support
Switching to the support position is common for seasoned professional athletes. While players with high mechanical prowess, such as T1’s Keria, have demonstrated how much they can contribute to the role, this is the exception rather than the rule.
Having a guy like Rekkles, who has been playing for almost ten years at this time, in the support role is usually incredibly helpful for getting the team organized and their communications in order. Rekkles expressed his feelings of “treading water” and “trying hard but not getting anywhere” in the ADC role in his own words. He is therefore switching to support.
In his brief announcement, he noted that he would need to learn a lot about playing champions at the top level, but he also said that he thought this was the right step for his career. He won’t even make his Fnatic debut during the Summer Split. He has yet to decide whether to stay with Fnatic or look into other options and join another team.
Since this announcement, the League of Legends community and the player’s ardent supporters have been in disbelief. However, it’s not surprising that he’s looking for something new, given Fnatic’s disappointing results in 2023.
