DarkZero Emerges Victorious in ALGS Split 2 Playoffs, Claims $300,000 Top Prize
The ALGS Split 2 Playoffs are over, and DarkZero has won the trophy and the $300,000 top prize! Here is all the information you want on the second big competition of the year. The Copper Box Arena in London hosted the second major competition of the season, with 40 teams competing for the majority of a $1 million prize pool, five months after hosting the Split 1 finals.
After three days of nonstop activity, the pool was reduced to 20 teams for the Finals. Which used the wildly popular Match Point system. The defending ALGS champion DarkZero and the Split 1 champion TSM qualified for match points in the third game. However, neither team could take advantage of it. Three more groups joined the battle for the championship as the Finals stretched on after reaching the 50-point threshold. A winner was only discovered after the seventh game. Rhys ‘Zer0’ Perry emerged as the victor as DarkZero won the trophy in a fiercely fought final ring.
The triumph is a much-needed reprieve after a trying Split 1, in which the squad came dangerously close to missing the Playoffs and finished 13th in London. The team has found its mojo with the addition of Brody ‘Xynew’ Geissler. Who could not have asked for a better LAN debut. After the final, Xynew said, “It’s wild; I can’t believe it. “I never imagined being here. I want to thank my teammates. Their third victory. They’re crazy.Tier-one Apex will return in September for the ALGS Championship, the season’s last competition. After the event, the organizers said that the event would take place in Birmingham from September 6–10.
Playoffs for ALGS 2023 Split 2: Format
The group stage, bracket stage, and finals are the three phases of the competition. The 40 qualifying teams will be divided into four groups of ten each, and they will face each other in a six-game series during the group stage. Each side will play eighteen total games. The top 20 teams will start in the winners’ bracket, and the bottom 20 teams will begin in the losers’ bracket, depending on the results, which will decide the teams’ seeds for the bracket stage.
In the bracket stage, there will be one six-game series for the upper bracket and two six-game series for the lower bracket. The top 10 teams from the winners’ bracket advance to the finals, while the other 10 compete in the losers’ bracket’s second round. The top 10 teams from the lower bracket will ultimately advance to the championship game.
Teams will become “Match Point Eligible” whenever they accumulate at least 50 points in the match point system used for the finals. The tournament champion is the team that wins a match first on match point.
