Evil Geniuses Shine at VCT Masters Tokyo: Riding High on House Money

After their 2-0 victory over FUT Esports in their opening match at VCT Masters Tokyo, Evil Geniuses discussed their hopes for the competition. In the opening Valorant game of VCT Masters Tokyo, EG defeated FUT Esports 2-0, demonstrating their ability to carry over their strong performance from VCT Americas to the worldwide stage. Ethan ‘Ethan’ Arnold acknowledged before the competition began that the team had no expectations. The club wasn’t sure it could deploy star player Max ‘Demon1‘ Mazanov until a few days before because he only received his passport on June 6.

EG member Alexander ‘jawgemo’ Mor echoed his teammate’s introductory remarks when asked about the strain of external expectations and how their outlook might have changed after the triumph versus FUT.”I don’t think the expectation has gotten to any of us,” one player remarked in a post-game press conference. “We have our own game, particularly our specific skill. We have no boundaries. “Once someone else gets hyped, the whole team gets hyped, and it just keeps going.” It has a cascading impact. We’ll always stay one step ahead of one another and have our plays in order. We work as a team because we pick each other up when we’re not performing well.

The Evil Geniuses’ rout of the VCT EMEA team was a prime example of one player energizing the rest of the team. Kelden ‘Boostio’ Pupello, the team’s IGL, burst onto the scene on the second map with 35 kills and wasn’t afraid to let his teammates and the crowd know he was having a good time. His teammates claimed that all the blustering and screaming on stage increased their self-assurance.

Corbin “C0M” Lee of Evil Geniuses remarked, “When he’s super loud, you know we’re winning.” On June 12, EG will take on DRX in the upper bracket final of Group B. The North American squad will reach the playoff round with one more series win.
