Overwatch 2 Players Find Love and Laughter Amidst the Pride Event

A Reaper player and an Overwatch 2 player engaged in a “beautiful” moment where they stopped battling and “fell in love” during the Pride event. The official Pride event for Overwatch 2 was underway on June 1st, 2023. Players can see slight modifications to the Midtown map during the Pride event, along with new player symbols, name cards, and a brief story.

Although Pride Month is being acknowledged in-game for the first time as part of this event, some LGBTQ+ community members weren’t overly impressed. That hasn’t prevented anyone, though, from appreciating the gesture. Recently, a fan of Overwatch 2 submitted a story about two Reapers from opposing teams in a Quick Play battle setting aside their differences to explore Colosseo before “falling in love.”

The Overwatch 2 Reaper duo shares a unique moment during the Pride Event

KDMKat, an Overwatch subreddit user, posted the story with the caption, “Sometimes Overwatch can be a beautiful place.” According to the OP’s further explanation, “The two reapers in my match fell in love, so we played 4v4 that match.” They posted a screenshot of two opponent Reapers named Jarebear and Vesneon interacting with one another while playing a Quick Play game.

Before typing, “Listen to me.,” Jarebear and the twin Reapers came together on the battlefield. I’d give my life for you. You know who you are,” he said, referring to the Reaper. The other Reaper, vision, eventually replied, “Take me on a date first,” for the rest of the Quick Play match, the two had a stroll through Colosseo. The exchange was hilarious to both Overwatch 2 players and the Reapers’ teammates, and many players made jokes about it in the comments. Jarebear: “Really? One commenter referred to Reaper’s well-known Ultimate ability voice phrase, “You didn’t say ‘I would die, die, die for you,'”

Some people wondered if the pair’s teammates weren’t miffed about losing two players early in the game. In response, the OP stated, “Yeah, this was just a quick play, and we were fully stacked, so I assume the other team was too or close to being a full stack.” Overall, though, it appears the community appreciated this informal enjoyment rather than the “sweaty” aspect of regular competitive Overwatch 2. We hope other players will let loose and participate in some lighthearted fun for the remainder of the game’s Pride event.
