The Unstoppable Duo: Zeri and Yuumi Dominate League of Legends Professional Play

Fans of League of Legends professional play have had a chance to observe the post-MSI meta in one of the most vital areas as the LPL has begun. And judging from the meta, there are a ton of Yuumi/Zeri lanes. Yuumi has been a total pain to balance since she was chosen for the pro-play meta. She was nerfed to the point of being nearly non-viable to keep her out of pro play this year, and her mid-scope rework was published just in time for her to be rendered ineffective at MSI.

While that mid-scope rearranged several of Yuumi’s skills, their ability for her to link to allies and become untargetable remained the primary source of contention. And given Zeri’s passive reliance on getting shields, Yuumi’s E becoming a shield has only benefited her. The two are intimately connected, with Yuumi being chosen with every late-game scaling ADC. Literally and metaphorically.

Zeri is very difficult to kill, even if caught off guard. Because of how good this combo is to draft, it is rarely a good idea to leave Zeri or Yuumi unlocked if they are. Considering that Zeri has a 100% pick/ban record despite only having been used in 4 of the 25 total LPL games as of the time of writing, league fans are already tired of watching this combo, and pros don’t want to see it too. Having these two champions teamed together in the pro play is already a significant problem.

Zeri/Yuumi already dominates League of Legends’ professional play

Although the LPL is the only significant region to have begun professional play, they are a reliable predictor of what other areas will do, particularly in light of the fact that the MSI 2023 Final featured an LPL vs. LPL contest.

Zeri and Yuumi have become a must-have pairing, just like Lucian and Nami did before. To make matters worse, Aphelios/Lulu frequently responds, which makes the meta even more predictable. Analysts like Caedrel are already inconsolable about the post-MSI drafts. Enchanters have a significant presence straight away, even in the LPL, a region known for selecting champions who are aggressive, all-in, and focused on challenging engagement. And one of the most potent combinations you can pick is Zeri/Yuumi combined.

Numerous comments on the Reddit article demanded nerfs for Zeri or changes to the ban mechanism that would make it easier to reliably ban stagnant champions like her and Yuumi and add some variety to the meta. When Yuumi’s rework first debuted, League of Legends players panned it, with many calling it a disaster. Given that everyone’s most diminutive favorite cat is now permitted, if her appearance in the LPL thus far is indicative of anything, then failure has now permeated professional play.
