League of Legends Midseason Invitational 2023 Grand Finals Record Lowest Numbers Since 2018
The grand finals of the League of Legends midseason invitational has the fewest viewers of any of the tournament’s stages since it began in 2018. A conclusion has been reached on the Midseason Invitational for League of Legends. Several teams competed against one another to achieve ultimate dominance, and the two Chinese teams advanced to the championship round.
JDG and BLG, two rival Chinese teams, squared off against each other in the championship match. JDG emerged victorious, prevailing over BLG with a score of 3-1, and took home the trophy for the competition. After the initial chaos had subsided, participants realized that the number of people watching the grand final of the MSI 2023 was disappointingly low. After conducting some research, it was determined that the viewership for the grand final of the MSI 2023 competition was the lowest it has been in recent years, except for the 2018 competition.
The number of spectators who saw the MSI 2023 grand finals is lower than in 2018
According to the post on Reddit, the maximum number of people who watched the MSI 2023 grand final was 1.1 million. This information comes from Esports Charts. This represents a significant decline compared to the previous Midseason invitationals, which had grand finals seen by 2.2 million and 1.8 million viewers in 2022 and 2021, respectively. The most watched match of the MSI 2023 competition occurred on Day 9 when JDG faced T1 during the tournament brackets. JDG was able to grab a 3-2 victory against the Korean team, and it was the match that received the most views.
One user on Reddit speculated that the long-running competition between the two teams, in which JDG had always prevailed over BLG, was the cause for the lower-than-usual viewership. As a consequence, there needed to be more excitement for the finals.
It is essential to point out that Esports Charts cannot count viewership in China, which would have made it much simpler to present the data in a more favorable light. On the other hand, a comment on Twitter suggests that even in China, viewership for the finals was lower and that the match between the LCK and LPL was their most watched tournament. Considering that viewership has been seemingly healthy across the board for the entirety of the tournament, it is unclear whether this indicates anything significant for League esports as a whole. If this turns out to be an indicator of something else, it will only become apparent with time.
