Assassin’s Creed
Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed series, built on the Anvil game engine, combines elements from open-world, action-adventure, and stealth games.
In the Assassin’s Creed video game series, the fictitious Order of Assassins fights for peace and free choice, while the Knights Templar seeks peace via order and control. The stories in the series combined elements of science fiction, alternate history, and historical persons and events with fictional narratives. Most games have players take on the role of an actual Assassin from history, as well as an Assassin Initiate or a bystander caught in the Assassin-Templar war.
Inspired by and sometimes cited as a direct sequel to the Prince of Persia novels. There has been no slowdown in the publication of the new Assassin’s Creed games since the first was launched in 2007. Games in the main Assassin’s Creed series are typically played from a third-person perspective and take place in an open environment. The player engages in battle, stealth, and exploration while also using parkour to get about. Multiplayer features, such as cooperative play and competitive matches, are included in certain games, while side quests are present.
The major Assassin’s Creed games have received mostly excellent reviews for their ambitious aesthetics, game design, and storytelling, with some criticism for the annual release cycle and numerous problems, as well as the prioritization of role-playing features in later installments. Many games of the year have been nominated for and awarded to the series. Having sold over 200 million copies by late 2022, it has become Ubisoft’s best-selling title and one of the highest-selling video game franchises of all time. Multiple spin-off games have been launched for consoles, mobile, and handheld platforms, while the core titles are developed for major consoles and desktop platforms. Novels, graphic novels, adaptations, encyclopaedias, and art books have all been released. In 2016, a live-action film named Assassin’s Creed was released, adapting the franchise for the big screen.
